Gina Baleria

Our newest Communications and Media Studies professor Gina Baleria has been busy discussing the significance of media coverage of COVID-19. On March 19, 2020 she appeared on the Commonwealth Club's special online Week to Week Political Roundtable, focusing on the political impact of the coronavirus on local, state, and national communities. The panel also explored the messaging of leadership during the crisis and other big political news of the moment, including the presidential campaign.

Gina's highlights of the conversation can be found at minutes 13:16-15:36, 48:45-50:45, 56:24-57:29 and 59:55-1:00:58.

Gina also moderated a discussion between colleagues Ed Beebout from our COMS department and Anne Belden, COMS professor from Santa Rosa Junior College as they analyze coverage of the coronavirus from our local news outlets and how we can determine what reporting is the best source.  The discussion aired as a webinar hosted by San Francisco Public Press on Wednesday, April 22, and it was aired on KSPF Radio 102.5 FM but you can listen to the podcast on Gina's podcast series, News in Context.  It is also available on PodBean.
