Hutchins School of Liberal Studies professor Janet Hess wrote a chapter for the forthcoming publication 150 Stories titled "Richard Mayhew at the Art Students League: Beauty, Brilliance, and Possibility" (New York: The Art Students League). Richard Mayhew is the last surviving member of Spiral, a group led by Romare Bearden and offering a visual response to the March on Washington and the Civil Rights Movement. The chapter is based on personal interviews with Mayhew.
