Theresa Burruel Stone & Pamela Rivas Publish "A Call to Reshape Our Desires" in Race, Ethnicity and Education

Assistant Professor Theresa Burruel Stone of the English Department and School of Education masters student Pamela Rivas have published "A call to reshape our desires: Contesting the 'inevitable answer' of inclusion within empire" in the leading peer-reviewed journal on racism and education, Race, Ethnicity and Education. Their ethnographic work draws from settler colonial studies and language socialization approaches to discuss pláticas with an educator and youth from a college preparation program in the San Francisco Bay Area. Findings challenge narratives of educational uplift as the central means to address the racialized violences Latine youth and their families experience in the U.S.
