Dean's Summer Message

Choosing which university to attend is one of the big moments of life you’ll never forget. I know what a turning point it was for me! It can be simultaneously thrilling and frightening as you venture out from familiar and comfortable surroundings and into a new world of discovery.

When I attended several receptions for newly accepted Sonoma State University students this past spring, I could see both the excitement and uncertainty I remember so well. It was my pleasure to tell these prospective students (and their parents) that they made an excellent choice in choosing SSU. It’s a beautiful campus where you can really get to know your classmates and instructors. A place where you feel supported.

That’s something we truly value in the School of Arts and Humanities. We’re proud of our “hands on” programs like music, theater, dance, fine arts, creative writing and cinematic arts. Students are nurtured and guided as they learn by doing in outstanding facilities built to support the curriculum.

Our school is also a place where you can develop critical thinking skills, learn a language, explore cultures and issues of social justice, or discover great literature.

Our smaller class sizes encourage lively discussions and active learning.

We’re excited to meet and get to know our first-year and transfer students for the 2023-24 academic year. Explore our websites to learn more about our programs and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have. We’re happy to be sharing this next chapter of your life!
