My first several months as interim dean of the School of Arts and Humanities have been a delightful journey of discovery, in ways I never expected.
While relatively new to this role, my history as an instructor at Sonoma State University dates back 20 years. During that time, I have made many friends and gained an immense respect for the quality of education delivered on this campus.
But serving as dean has given me the opportunity to take a deeper dive into all the School of Arts and Humanities has to offer: Enriching and innovative disciplines. Outstanding “maker spaces”, including a phenomenal art facility, a 475-seat performance theater, a new state-of-the-art video production studio, and the world-class Green Music Center.
But what really distinguishes us are the exceptional faculty and staff who are the heart of this school. Every day they share their expertise, energy, caring and support. Students learn how to be critical thinkers, creative problem solvers and future leaders. We pride ourselves on building personal relationships and a sense of community, something that’s difficult to achieve at a large urban campus.
